CRESCENDO IN BLUE
DIMINUENDO IN BLUE
First of a series of new selections by Elling-
ton.
"Diminuendo" begins fortissimo .with in-
tricate contrapuntal rhythms played against a
Dixieland Instrumentation . The orchestral tone
recedes to the end which is taken as a piano
solo by Ellington.. On "Crescendo" the theme
is varied further by employing clarinets in low
register, elevating the pitch of the reeds and
uncovering th e muted brass for a finale which
is a robust rhythmic concoction played double
(
fortissimo. Iriteresting.

An Irish waltz gem by the supreme authori-

and worthy of any phonograph's top spot in
any location. Highly recommended.
TUNE WRANGLERS (N) 7272

Fast and robust hillbilly treatment brings

and put them over in A-I fashion. Good for
novelty and old time music spots.

MY ISLE OF GOLDEN DREAMS (Waltz)
DROWSY WATERS (Waltz)
Here is a unique combination . . . a Ha-
waiian trio and a massive organ collaborating
together on two numbe rs that will make
"take" history. Finest recording of Hawaiian
numbers we've heard for many a moon. Sw eet,
slow, interesting and exceptionally expressive
of the easy and well regulated evennes s of
the Islands . Very, very good1

WHEN MY BABY SMILES AT ME (FT)
NOBODY'S GOT THE BLUES BUT

You 've heard Ted Lewis do this number on
Columbia . Here is a new and terrifically tor-
rid rendition of the same dittie . Lots of snappv
Jazz breaks . Fishe r ' s band is coming to the
front as one of the finest novelty bands on
records . Second · tune is equally a s good .
Don' t miss this 'un .

First is a sw ing version, ove rly swung, of
Ira and George Gers hwin 's supreme e ffort of
a few years back . Second side brings forth
Jack Benny 's compe tish . . . . Jimmy Dorsey on
the saxophone blowing out 20 notes a second
on the closing 20 bars . Lots of folks will in-
vest the twentieth part of a · dollar to hear this
unique feat performed. Good .
JOE DANIELS (0) 1510
MAMA INEZ (Rhumba)
WABASH BLUES (FT)
" Drumnastics " Daniels really does his stuff

his majes ty 's alley. Nifty .
DICK ROBERTSON (0) 1512

I WONDER WHO 'S KISSING HER
NOW (Waltz)
Tw o naturals from the hit library of yester-

touch and it's up to the smart op. to get these
into the stack . They'll bring in the coin if
given a chance.
BING CROSBY (V) 1518
WHEN YOU DREAM ABOUT HAWAII
SAIL ALONG SILVERY MOON
Two excep tionally fine vocals with Lani Mc-
Intire and his Haw aiians backing up . This is
Crosby 's first Hawaiian number since " Sweet
Leilani " and while it probably w on ' t be a s
sensational a s eller never-the-less it is equally
as beautiful.

Autry has won his way into t),e hearts and
souls of countless thousands . His renditions
and interpretations 'of true western cowboy
numbers are not to be equalled . His original
number "!t ' s Roundup Time in Reno" is his
contribution to the Republic picture " Manhat-
tan Merry-Go-Round ." There 's a ready made
audience waiting for these numbers in every
s ection of the country . Very good .

GUY LOMBARDO (0) 25702. 25709
WHEN THE ORGAN PLAYED " OH
PROMISE ME" (FT)
TEN PRETTY GIRLS (FT)
In the usual Lombardo style these two num-
bers hit the wax as sweet and beautiful as it
is possible to record them. Outside of the
mechanical end of the business these two
numbers are really tops. First ditty has proven
its worth . Second tune, hailing from dear old
England, shows promises . A good disc to risk
a few pennles on .
SWEET SOMEONE (FT)
I WANT TO BE IN WINCHELL'S
COLUMN (FT)
These two hail from the new Winchell-Ber-
nie picture "Love and Hiss es ." Written by
Gordon and Revel you couldn't ask for a
better dance double in sweet, sophisticated
rhythm . Carmen sings .
BENNY GOODMAN (0) 25708
I'VE HITCHED MY WAGON TO
A STAR (FT)
LET THAT BE A LESSON TO YOU (FT)
A pair of promising tunes from the First Na-

at a medium slow swing tempo while the sec-
ond picks up a little and produces a marve-
lous bit of trumpet get-off by Harry James .
Good .

THE CAMPBELLS ARE SWINGIN' (FT)
Clinton dishes up some original Arabian
swing music and combines it with his own
version of " The Campbells ." Splendid ex-

ments are solid and hotsy to dance to.
BENNY GOODMAN (0) 25711
CAN'T TEACH MY OLD HEART
NEW TRICKS (FT)
SILHOUETTED IN THE
MOONLIGHT (FT)
Johnny Mercer's numbers get an excursion in
interpretations when Goodman and his good

If you 've Goodman spots this one should
please .
"FATS" WALLER (0) 25712
WHAT WILL I DO IN THE
MORNING? (FT)
HOW YA BABY? (FT)
Lots of question marks in the titles but this
is not a questionable record. Thomas "Fats"
Waller collaborated on these numbers and
most certainly the colored gentleman can write
stuff that lits his style. Nuf sed . This disc is
superb. Lend vour ears . " Fats " piano chor-
uses on both sides are terrific.
MELOTONE
CHICK BULLOCK (0) 71207
YOU MADE ME LOVE YOU (I
Didn't Want To Do It) (FT)
