LOS ANGELES
HE mystery of the Bally D erby which
T W.
H. Shorey, Jr., of Redlands dropped
off the back of his car enroute home from
Los Angeles was so lved when he inquired
among some youngsters along the road and
found one of them had picked up the table
off the highway and taken it to a barn.
Los Angeles coinmen are looking for-
ward to a big affair June 2nd when
CAMOA holds a big banquet and dance
at the Ship Cafe in V enice. Only Associa-
tion members and their guests wi ll be ad-
mitted, with a few extra tickets available
to members at $1.50 per head. The at-
tendance of over 500 will include some of
the operators' location owners.
~
Business has been particularly good dur-
ing the month for Paul A. Laymon, the
Los Angeles jobber reports. But everyone
was scurrying around the place the other
day until five fire trucks arrived in the nick
of time and extinguished a blaze in an ad-
joining building. There happened to be
more equipment in stock at the time t han
the insurance covered.
Clarence McClelland, manager of Na-
tional Amusement Co. branch in San Fran-
cisco, spent the first week in May visiting
the Los Angeles office and lining up sales
plans for Northern California.
KALAMAZOO, MI CHIGAN
Word was received here that Operator
]. ]. Mehegan of Modesto and party had
arrived in Chicago to spend a few days be-
fore going on to Detroit to pick up a new
car for the return trip.
Among the visiting operators in town
were Lee Corey of Fresno, C. ]. Berke-
meyer of San Luis Obispo, W. ]. Sparrow
of Santa Barbara, C. A. Tom linson of Exe-
ter, Wo lf brothers of San Diego, A. ].
Fox and Art Dawes, also of the border
city, and a who le flock of Bakersfield ops-
Joe Carruthers, Phi l Brown, J. G. Stein-
house, Peterson and La Valle. Seaman of
San Bernardino and Cooper of Riverside
also were in on regular trips.
Bud Smith was in Los Angeles to report
that he has so ld his route in Ventura to
Art Ell is and is now operating in Santa
Maria.
.
Bob Riddell shot a 76 the open ing day
of the Santa Catalina Island golf tourna-
ment but doesn 't remember his score for
the fina l round.
Sol Gottlieb Co. bowling team, headed
by "300" Sol himself, has issued a chal-
lenge to the Consolidated Novelty Co. team
in the hopes of getting a coinmen's bowling
league under way. Other Gottlieb bowlers
are Paul Henry, Forrest Krieger, Bob Rid-
del land Ted Starkey, while Frank Kozinsky
heads the list of Conso l idated pin destroy-
ers.
C. C. Goodson of Pasadena found a line
of customers outside one of his locations
waiting to get in at 8 a.m. the other day
and discovered the rush was caused by
anxiety to play one of his games that had
overpaid $28 the previous night.

Mary had a little lamb.

And everywhere that Mary went
She took a taxi .
(Laugh about this one next week.)
A shipwrecked soldier, a marine, and a
sailor on a desert island looked across a
little valley and saw that each of them was
standing opposite a white sheep.
Soldier: "Gosh' I wish that was Mae
West!"
Marine: "Mae West may be all right ,
but I wish this one was Garbo' "
Sai lor: " Heck, I wish it was dark' "
Young Man: "Your father looks very
distinguished with his snow white hair."
Young Lady: "Yes, he has me to thank
for that. "
First Young Man: "When I get married
I'll be the boss or know the reason why. "
Young Married Man: "Don't worry'
You ' lI know why! "
Actor: "Hurrah! At last I have a lead-

Friend: "Are you to play the hero )"
Actor: "Not exactly-I lead a donkey on
the stage."
Did you know that:
Barnacles have no ear for music )
In South American republics a president's
term of office is one round - trip in a re-
vo lving doorway ?
You can extinguish an electric light by
smashing the bulb with a bed slat ?
Fleas can be exterminated by putting the

A man who had lived on a desert isle
for many years one day saw another island
in the distance, so he made a crude raft
and paddled over. On the island he was
met by a woman , who like himself, had
been on this isle for many years:
Woman: ''I'm going to give you some-
thing you have wanted for many years'"
Man: " D on't tel l me, lady, that you have
beer on ice over here )"
