Coin Machine Review (& Pacific ...)

Issue: 1934 September

Two 1934 Sensations!
It's very seldom that a manufacturer brings out two outstanding money makers in succession.
It's almost unbelievable when a manufacturer brings out two big successes within one season ...
but that's exactly what the Daval Mfg. Co. has accomplished. During the past season it has in-
troduced to the coin machine trade two of the finest machines and best money makers the trade
has ever known.

RI!)LE
Al Gustafson reports that J. Frank
Meyer, of the Exhibit Supply Com-
pany, is taking in the Sights abroad,
first a letter from London, then Paris
and next Germany. Al tells us that
Mr. Meyer contemplates visiting
Spain and Italy before. returning to
the good old U. S. When we hear
stories like this it makes us forget
that we ever heard of that old man
that some people called Depression.
Jack McClelland of the National
Amusement Company, was a visitor
in Seattle about the middle of Aug-
ust. He told someone (confidential-
ly, of course) that he would like to
live in Seattle-except . . . that he
was a member of the Los Angeles
Chamber of Commerce and has his
dues paid for the next 40 years.
Earl Heroux, a local printer, after
having done a lot of printing for the
various jobbers and distributors here,
and getting a fair idea of what the
pin games are doing, has re-entered
. the operating business. He'll trade
a doughnut fOor a bake shop any time.
Seattle ops claim they have seen
mOore new games of merit within the
last 30 days than they have had the
Oopportunity to gaze on in the past
two years.
There is a little war on among Ta-
COoma operators tOo see which one can
sell the mOost machines to locations.
It this hits you, no apologies.
In the August issue Art Weld said
he knew a darned good prescription
for a headache. Will someone who
knows how, kindly get in touch with
Art Weld and ask 'him to send me
two quarts? I'll return the seals so
he'll know I gOot 'em. I'll also send
the three-cent stamp with the 'seals.
Mr. 0, A. DonaldsOon, well known in
Los Angeles operating circles, has
been viSIting in Seattle for the past
two weeks. He says the Swimming
and brunettes, I mean beer, "is da
purty gooda stuff."
If anyone knows Ray Swing's tele-
phOone number, call him up and ask
how many Mint Juleps a man can
drink and still drive on the pavement.
Remember, I said call him on the
phone. I didn't say ask him in per-
son.
Mr. Clif Lewis Oof Los Angeles, has
joined the forces of Al Gustafson in
Seattle. I imagine Clif will run true
to fo1'Tn and start inventing a ma-
chine a few weeks after he has been
"RILL
associated with the operating busi-
ness (if he hasn't done so).
Someone wrote me that Tom Wall
was in the hospital in Chicago when
he made his business trip to the mid-
dle west. What was it Tom, high
Blonde pressure?
It has been rumored that Jack Rob-
erts, of Western Distributors, is go-
ing to sell his business and enter the
typewriter game, ,.
Not only the big shots are playing
the Major League but a lot of the
bush leaguers are spending their time
trying to make a home run.
Since the beer "jernts" are closed
on Sunday it gives the operators a
chance tOo get out and enjoy some of
the lake, mountain and ocean re-
sorts. I haven't heard a one of them
cry about it.
With so many new machines on the
marKet at the same time some of the
Seattle ops have solved the problem.
I have heard that a few of them hav·e
had the motors in their cars souped
up in the event they had to race to
a location they could be there first.
It seems that the old adage, "Love
they neighbor," is no go in this busi-
ness .

Bromberg Moves
To New Quarters
LOS ANGELES-As the first move
in an expansion program the Irving
Bromberg Company announces its re-
moval from the former location at
1034 West Seventh street to new and
larger quarters at 2922 West Pico
street.
Irving Bromberg, who has been in
New York for the past several
months handling the sale of Contact,
is now back on the coast and is again
at the head of the firm bearing his
name.

Jobbing Firm
Changes Name
LOS ANGELES-In order to give
the personal touch to the firm's name
the local branch of D. Gottlieb & Co.
will henceforth be known as the Sol
Gottlieb Company.
The change is being made, Mr.
Gottlieb states, to personalize the op-
erating name of the firm.

Wurlitzer Phonograph a
Product of 7 Generations
NORTH TONAWANDA, N. Y.-
The constantly increasing demand for
the fully-selective Simplex automatic
phonograph has brought about the
opening of new sales territories in the
western part of the United States.
Mr. R. Q . Kramer, who maintains
headquarters at the Crest hotel in
Denver, Colo., is serving the states
of Colorado, Utah, Montana, Idaho
and Wyoming in the factory distribu-
tion of the Wurlitzer-Simplex.
Mr. W . E. Simmons has been placed
in charge of factory sales in South-
ern California and Arizona and is
maintaining headquarters at 1550 N.
Wilcox Ave., Hollywood, Calif.
The Rudolph Wurlitzer Mfg. Co.
may be looked upon as the world's
oldest manufacturer of musical mer-
chandise if one takes into considera-
tion the fact that for seven genera-
tions the name of Wurlitzer has al-
ways been associated with the pro-
duction of fine musical mercnandise.
The House of Wurlitzer was found-
ed in Saxony in 1701 by Hans An-
dreas Wurlitzer. He and his brother ,
Hans Adam, were sons of an emi-
nent Saxon lute-maker. EmplOying
inborn talents, Hans Andreas be-
came .even more famous as a lute-
maker than the father by whose ex-
perience and counsel he had been en-
riched. Hans Adam served an ap-
prenticeship as a lute-maker but
later became devoted to the art of
violin making. In 1732 he was hon-
ored by the Saxon Guild with the
title of Master Violin Maker.
Since that time, through seven suc-
cessive generations, the name of
Wurlitzer has been inseparably iden-
tified with the progress of music. It
is this organization today tllat is be-
hind the Wurlitzer-Simple fUlly-se-
lective automatic phonograph.
