THE COIN MACHINE JOURNAL
Coin - Operated Television
Set for Homes
A new coin-operated television re-
ceiver, which will be made available to
the public at no cost for use in the
home, was demonstrated to the press
for the first time at the Hotel Dorset
in New York City. The receiver was
manufactured by TRADIO INC. of As-
bury Park, N. J., one of the country's
largest producers of coin-operated ra-
dios. ( See illustration on front cover).
Trademarked "TradioVision," it is
the first coin-operated television unit
ever to be manufactured and is believ-
ed to be the world's smallest television
receiver. Assembly line production is
expected to get underway by show
time. Distribution will be handled
either by the factory direct or through
established TRADIO international dis-
tributors.

This revolutionary merchandising
plan was born out of the rapidly grow-
ing demand for television receivers on
the part of numerous individuals who
would like television in their homes
but cannot afford to pay current high
prices. It makes television available
to them now at no initial cost. The
plan is also designed to create im-
mediately a larger television audience
for broadcasters and advertisers.
When in actual use, the house owner
will enjoy a half hour television show
for fifty cents. For example, a large
house gathering might "attend" a
complete football game in leisurely
comfort on a Saturday at almost neg-
ligible cost.
Designed by TRADIO engineers af-
ter years of research and development,
Tradio Vision offers the following fea-
tures: a five or seven inch screen, 500
line definition, 20 tubes, acoustic
modulation, low power consumption,
complete plug-in unit assembly to sim-
plify on-the-spot service, and no com-
plicated tuning.
Current plans do not call for the
direct sale of Tradio Vision sets to the
consumer. Instead, Tradio Vision will
be installed on a "pay as you play" ba-
sis. Future plans also include the
later offering of a TradioVision serv-
ice on a fixed monthly rental basis.
Under these plans, the producers
enumerate the following advantages
to the consumer:
1. No initial expenditure, 2. No an-
tenna installation charge, 3. Contin-
uous free maintenance and insurance,
4. Prompt installation of improved
features resulting from further re-
search. 5. Selection of desired finish
on the Tradio Vision cabinet to blend
with the color scheme of any room.
Tradio Vision will be made available
to the public through a variety of
other places outside the home; in ho-
tels, cocktail lounges, meeting rooms,
etc.
TRADIO INC., since its inception,
has risen to a position of prominence
in the coin-operated radio field. Today
the company is recognized as a leader
in this industry with over 1000 repre-
sentatives located in virtually every
section of the country. Currently,
more than 1000 hotels are enjoying
the benefits of TRADIO.
