From this tiny outpost of the Western frontier, as
it was nearly 100 years ago, Chicago has grown to
a city of more than four million souls. This his
toric spot has been restored that visitors may see
what obstacles were met that we may enjoy the
countless advantages of today. Only a few years
later Mr. Thomas W atling launched his career as a
manufacturer of coin operated machines producing
the world famous W atling Springless coin operated
personal weighing scale. The history of the W at
ling Scale is likewise a history of Chicago and the
coin machine industry.

TOM THUMB FORTUNE
TELLING SCALE
Your Fortune and Weight
One Cent
This is the only scale of its kind ever built.
It is built without springs.
It is the talk of the century.
It will invariably increase the earnings over 100% over any
other small type of scale. Why? Because, the average per
son, especially the women, are not satisfied stepping on the
scale and getting their weight and fortune, but they will drop
in additional pennies to get different fortunes.
The Tom Thumb Fortune Telling Scale will hold locations
where other scales are not tolerated.
Take our advice— DON’T BUY PRICE, BUY QUALITY.

In the Lead!
YOUR WEIGHT

in plain
view
The lead we took over our competitors over forty years
ago in the coin operated scale business is growing greater and
greater as time goes on, with th^ result that today we are in
a class by ourselves. (We have seen them come, and we have
seen them go, but we go on forever.) FIFTEEN years ago
we revolutionized the coin operated scale industry by placing
on the market the first and only twin counter-balance scale,
you did NOT have to set level to have it function properly.
W atling’s twin counter-balance coin operated scales have
been used as a basis of comparison by other scale makers for
many, many years.
We Are Originators
We originated and built the Original Guess
Your Weight Scale, the Original Fortune
Ticket Vending Scale with music attachment,
the Original Large Head porcelain enameled
springless scale with fluted post, the Original
Full-Length Mirror Scale with and without for-
tune telling attachment. We originated the
vending machine feature attached to scales.

;•
. .
We originated the four-way beam pivots, ad
justable loops, adjustable ball bearings, and oil
shock absorbers.
Patented trip-off system, enabling the public
to insert their coin before or after stepping on
the platform, and many other basic features
which many of the so-called coin operated scale
manufacturers have pirated. Why take a
chance? Buy from the originators!

It Defies Comparison
So don’t let those high pressure salesmen and questionable
ads make you believe that a scale is a scale or that they are
as good as a Watling scale. Keep this in mind, there is only
