Youngstown — A coin-oper
ated machine that sharpens a
knife in half a minute has been
developed by K. A. Painter, a
former chief engineer for Re
public Steel Corp. The machine,
using new type abrasives, grinds
for a minute when a nickel is
dropped into the chute. This
allows time to put hollow-
ground razor edges on two
knives.

EDDIE PLUGS EDDIE
What’s in a name? A lot of
cooperation, when both names
are the same. For instance,
Eddie Lane and Eddie Ross.
Eddie Lane is the industry’s
songwriting advertising man;
Eddie Ross is the boss of Oriole
Coin Machine Corp., Baltimore.
So Eddie Lane writes a new
novelty song, “ THE TWO LIT
TLE SQUIRRELS (NUTS TO
Y O U ) ” and has it recorded by
Mitchell Ayres on Bluebird,
Tommy Tucker on Okeh, and
Louis Jordon on Decca — and
Eddie Ross, a big music oper
ator, goes nuts about the tune
and puts a record on every one of
his phonographs.
Lane is happy because he’s
getting this big plug; Ross is
happy because “ THE TWO
LITTLE SQUIRRELS (NUTS
TO Y O U ) ” is bringing in the
cocoanuts; and the industry is
happy because one of its own
boys has now produced another
hit song that brings him a
further step up the ladder.
P.S. Eddie Lane’s brother is
the well known Bert (Seaboard
Sales) Lane; and Eddie, in addi
tion to knocking out hit tunes,
knocks out resultful ads for
Byrde, Richard and Pound Ad
Agency’s accounts.
NEW YORK CLAMORS
FOR FOLK SONGS
Western plains and southern
hills are attracting New Yorkers
— phonographically speaking.
Machine operators who for
merly received calls for little be
sides the ordinary sweet and
swing run, now must meet de
mands for “ Mary, the Prairie,
and I,” “ Hillbilly Bill,” “ A Dol
lar’s All I Crave,” and other hill
billy and Western songs.
Why? Opinions vary. Promi
nent theories ar e: (1) a new ap
preciation of American folks
songs, another phase of the na
tionalism holding the country’s
attention; (2) lack of good mu
sic, due to the ASCAP-BMI con
flict; (3) the increasing number
of western and hillbilly pictures
now being released.

For a number of years oper
ators in Iowa have received the
utmost cooperation from Peanut
Products Co. of Des Moines, in
establishing and maintaining
profitable routes of bulk venders.
Now another group of opera
tors can share in this excellent
service, as the Peanut Products
Company has opened a branch in
Omaha, Nebraska, at 910 Har
ney Street. A complete selection
of Northwestern machines, parts
and accessories, as well as a
wide selection of fast selling
merchandise, will be stocked.
TINY HILL HEARS HIS "NOAH'S WIFE" NUMBER
Tiny Hill, America's biggest band leader, whose sensational rendering of "Noah'* W ife
Lived a Wonderful Life," has brought him even greater fame, is pictured above hearing his
number played on a Wurlitzer 850.
Dropping in at the Show Rooms of the Chicago Simplex Distributing Co., 2532 Cottage
Grove Ave., Tiny heard this magnificent Wurlitzer, had this to say about it, "It's as wonder
ful as Noah's Wife's Life" and that’s saying plenty!
