Solution For Material Shortages
Fabricated Masonite Replacing Shortage of Plywood,
Fibre-Board, M e ta l and Plastic in Defense Program
But it has only been in recent
years that Service Industries,
Inc. perfected specialized equip
ment for bending, die-cutting,
punching, shaping, routing, lam
inating and finishing Masonite
on a commercial basis. It is a
fixed policy of this company to
make no completed products but
simply to furnish parts to the
industrial trade. Its Research
Division assists in developing
new applications for the special
ized use of Masonite and its En
gineering Department assists in
designing, planning and estimat
ing the customer’s require
ments.
The shortage of many basic
materials as a result of the vast
National Defense Program has
caused many a company to
search for and experiment with
substitute materials. Masonite,
which is made entirely of ex
ploded wood fibre, is commonly
used where resistance to abra
sion, high strength and low
moisture absorption are re
quired. It is an ideal material
to use because it has all the qual
ities of density, strength, dura
bility, smoothness, workability
and beauty. It will not crack,
warp or chip.

Special finishes have been
perfected which make it possible
to duplicate any finish that can
now be used on plywood, fibre-
board or sheet metal.
Manufacturers of coin opera
ted machines have found it diffi
cult to find a material that would
stand up under rough usage.
Ordinary wood very o f t e n
cracks or warps and is costly to
maintain. Metal machines be
come unsightly when they are
dented and the paint or enamel
chips off. Cigarette machine
cabinets, phonographs and any
similar article may be made
just as economically of Fabrica
ted Masonite, has just as smooth
a painting surface, has more
strength and durability than
other materials, and will not
warp or splinter. It will out
last and outlook virtually every
material used in the manufac
ture of these products.
There is absolutely no waste
and the customer gets service
and prices that were not possible
before.
A 16-page brochure— “ FAB
RICATING TO SPECIFICA
TIONS WITH INDUSTRIAL
MASONITE” will be sent on re
quest to Service Industries, Inc.,
2035 Calumet Ave., Chicago. An
open invitation is extended to
visit the plant and to see the
hundreds of uses of fabricated
Masonite.

BEVERAGE VENDERS
ON U. S. BATTLESHIP
Five Bally Beverage Venders
are in operation on the recently
launched battle-ship, U. S. S.
North Carolina, according to
officials of Standard Beverage
Corporation, large operating or
ganization with headquarters
New York City.
“ The first Bally Beverage
Vender installed on the North
Carolina ,” the Standard official
stated, “ sold more than 1,200
drinks the first day. Four addi
tional venders were immediately
placed aboard the vessel, and all
are doing a big business furnish
ing high quality, perfectly car
bonated beverage to the naval
crew already manning the North
Carolina and the civilian corp
which is doing the final construc
tion work.
“ Bally Beverage Venders on
the newest, greatest unit in our
Navy and scores of venders in
aircraft and other defense plants
demonstrate the fact that the
coin-machine industry has a def
inite part in the defense pro
gram.”
