CVO HOLD SPECIAL MEETING
SLUG LEGISLATION, FREE BOOK MATCHES, WAGES
AND HOURS LAW DISCUSSED BY ILLINOIS OPERATORS
The Cigarette Vendor Opera
tors of Illinois held a special
meeting in Peoria Sunday after
noon, November 16th at the
Pere Marquette Hotel.
Jack Kelner, retiring presi
dent, installed the newly elected
officers: Ralph Ditewig of
Peoria, president; Victor Neis-
wanger of Elgin, vice president;
C. Lloyd Moore of Mattoon, 111.,
secretary; E. H. Greenwood of
Pontiac, treasurer.
The matters of utmost impor
tance before the meeting were
pending legislation a g a i n s t
slugs, disposition of free book-
matches and the Wages and
Hours Law.
The Association decided to
continue to disburse free book-
matches in vendors, despite the
rapidly rising cost. It was
pointed out that cigarette opera
tors render a service, and that
the delivery of free book-matches
is part of that service. If the
costs on matches will go higher,
as is expected, operators will
find some other means of mak
ing up the difference.
Lawyer for the Association,
Louis David Friedman, recount
ed his efforts to have the Illinois
Legislation pass an Anti-Slug
Bill (similar to that enacted in
Minnesota). There will be some
difficulties during the next year,
but he has high hopes that such
legislation will be passed.
The Association voted to hold
a meeting at the Sherman Hotel
during the Coin Show in Chi
cago on Wednesday, January
14th, 1942.
