M AKES ANNOUNCEMENT
NEW line of penny candy
bars that increases the
sales of vendors has been de
veloped by Garfield Candies,
Inc., Chicago, Illinois. They are
“ all-year-round” bars and have
proved themselves by the rigid
test of hot summer weather
when placed in vendors hereto
fore used only for chocolate
bars. It is reported that oper
ators ;who, instead of leaving
their machine idle, keep them
filled with Garfield’s new penny
bars are reaping harvests of
coins.
“ NUTTY NUGGET” , “ AL
MOND CHEW” and “ PEANUT
CRUNCH” are the names of
these popular, fast-selling new
penny candy bars. They are
high grade candy of excellent
taste.
“ Quality candy, attractive
packaging, and uniformity ac
complished by modern machin
ery” > said Fred Lax, Garfield’s
Production Manager, “ were all
combined to create this new
ideal penny candy-bar service
for all-year-round vending. The
inner grease-proof wax paper
and the machine double-wrap
ping are important features of
these bars, because they elimi

troubles.”
An angle o f particular im
portance was pointed out by
Martin M. Malsh, Garfield’s
Sales Manager, who said: “ Now
operators need no longer fear
idle machines due to weather
conditions. Furthermore, our
new bars give the operators of
the selective types of penny bar
vendors a greater variety and
increased turn-over and profits.”
Another Garfield product is
“ SIX BITS.” This is a very fine
5c peanut candy bar, which has
proved a “ best seller” because it
has the tang so sought after by
\
the public and achieved only by
candy makers long experienced
in the art of toasting peanuts.

ture-proof wrapper of trans

parent cellophane is in itself a
silent salesman. Air-tight seal
ing of the wrapper insures re
tention of the original goodness
of the bar.
The Garfield Candy Company
will mail samples of their prod
ucts to interested operators.
These samples come in attrac
tive mailing kits.

Years ago, operators asked
each other why the vending ma
chine manufacturers did not
make equipment that was pretty
instead of like “ a sawed off
water hydrant.”
At the time operators werf
asking this question, the answer
was obvious. Beautiful vending
machines cost quite a bit of
money, and operators wanted to
buy “ at a price.”
Today, all of that has changed.
There isn’t a single vending ma
chine on the market that doesn’t
look pretty. They have all been
greatty improved and represent
value that in the old days would
have cost plenty.
Modern vendors are every
thing that an operator could pos
sibly ask for in the way of
beauty, the beautiful thinj about
it all is that these modern ven
dors are easily within the price
range of any operator. It’s just
a case of greater beauty—
greater value— less cost.

Some years ago, a Rock-Ola
phonograph distributor from
Florida presented the Rock-Ola
Manufacturing Corporation with
a real live baby alligator. He was
only twelve inches long.
Came the sad day when the
alligator had to go. The boys
took him out to the Lincoln
Park Zoo and turned him loose
with the grand-daddy alligators.
The other day, one of ye edi
tors happened to be at the zoo
and asked the keeper there if he
remembered the famous Rock-
Ola snapping alligator of some
years back.
Imagine—he not
only remembered it, he could
display it.
Turned out that soon after the
little feller was dropped into the
pond, his tail was snapped off by
a brother alligator who didn’t
take to him. He was marked for
life!
