For Curb M eter D am age
Tamper with one of the city’s 317
new downtown parking meters with
intentions of damaging it and you
face a possible stiff fine or jail
sentence, Municipal Justice Koepke
said.
The justice was not issuing a warn
ing on the matter, merely explaining
that wilful damage to one o f the
curb meters can be construed as
malicious destruction of property—a
misdemeanor punishable by a maxi
mum $500 fine or 90-day jail sentence,
or both.
Koepke pointed out also that over
time parking violations in the me

No “ Breaking In”
Pfanstiehl N eedle
The Pfanstiehl Chemical Company
of Waukegan has just made another
startling announcement that is cer
tain to be of paramount interest to
music operators everywhere.
The
announcement has to do with the new
“ break in” feature of their 4000 play
Pfanstiehl phonograph needle, which
further reduces record wear.
The “break in” feature, officials of
the company explained, is a new
secret process o f applying an ex
tremely high polish to the entire sur
face of the needle point which gives
the equivalent of actually playing the
needle on three or four records. In
other words, Pfanstiehl needles will
now be furnished to operators already
“ broken in.”
Bill Hemminger, Sales Manager of
Pfanstiehl, in commenting on the
new “ break in” feature, said, “ When
we introduced the new 4000 play
Pfanstiehl needle we were confident
that we would bring to the music
operators a great advancement in
needle design. An advancement that
would directly benefit the operators,
not only by increased patronage due
to the improvement of the recordings,
but also by greatly reducing and
simplifying his service requirements.
The tremendous enthusiasm d isplayed
over the Pfanstiehl needle has very
definitely confirmed our belief.
“ But just to introduce a better
needle was not enough. We at Pfan
stiehl believe that nothing is so good
that it cannot be improved, and that
the only way to improvement is
through research and in v estig a tio n .
Thus, when our chemists and meta-
lurgists had perfected the P fa n stie h l
needle, they were told to continue
with their investigation of means of
improving it. The most recent re
sult of their efforts has been the
“break in” process. This process,
which for obvious reasons remains
secret, enables us to add an extreme
ly high polish to the entire surface of
the needle point. Adding this polish
is equivalent to playing the needle
on three or four records the time
generally considered the “ break in
periods. Thus, record wear is further
reduced.
“ We are confident that this new
feature will not only be o f tremen
dous interest to our hundreds o f
satisfied users, but also to every
music operator throughout the in
dustry.
