City Is Happy Over
Parking Meter Funds
Poughkeepsie, N. Y.— Revenue col
lected from Poughkeepsie’s parking
meters the last two weeks, the balance
on hand in the parking meter fund,
and estimated receipts for the balance
of the year and 1941 indicate that
the city may count upon approximate
ly $40,000 from the meters for 1941
financing purposes if the administra
tion decides to pay off bonds with
the money.
Regai'dless of what may be done
with the money yielded by the meters,
it does repi'esent “ extra” income and
will surely be put to good use. The
fine showing made by the meters has
made many people happy.

A ll In Favor Of
Meters Here
South Chicago, 111. — The South
Chicago Chamber of Commerce took
a progressive step at its recent meet
ing when the business men’s organi
zation went on record with a unani
mous vote to recommend installation
of parking meters here.
The parking problem in South Chi
cago is an actue one with employees
of stores and managers of shops
parking their own cars at the curb
all day long thus preventing shop
pers from transacting business with
out double parking.
Business men have the feeling that
it’s cheaper to pay a nickel to park
than it is to pay 15 to 50 cents to
park in a lot from where you have to
walk back to the shopping district
anyhow.
