Cigarette Merchandisers Ass’n.
of New Jersey, Inc.
Judging from the attendance
at the meetings of the New Jer
sey Cigarette Merchandisers
Assn. since the Promotion Com
mittee introduced its program
°f educational and instructive
talks, it might be well for other
trade associations to consider
such a policy.
At its last meeting, the As
sociation was deeply impressed
with an address given by Mr.
Henry N. Wertheimer of the
National Cigarette Vending Ma
chine Manufacturing Co.
The second lecture was given
by Mr. S. D. Page of the New
Jersey Bell Telephone Com
pany who, in an illustrated talk
entitled “Know Your State”
called attention to the fact that
few people in New Jersey real
ize how interesting, how beau
tiful and how important this
state really is. He gave the
members an opportunity to
hear and see some of the his
torical background of New Jer
sey, its scenic beauties and rec
reational facilities, and its un
usual advantages as a place of
residence and as a site for in
dustry. The talk was illustrated
with 50 beautifully colored
slides showing points of inter
est in all parts of the state,
some little known but highly
interesting facts regarding the
past, the present and the future
of the “Gateway to America.”
At its next meeting, the As
sociation will have Mr. Irving
Sherman of Los Angeles, Cali
fornia, who will talk on the
subject “California Comes to
New Jersey.” Mr. Sherman has
visited a number of Associa
tions and will bring a wealth of
information in the conduct of,
and the reasons for, the organi
zation of trade associations in
the Vending Machine Industry.
In addition to Mr. Sherman,
Mr. A. H. Wellen, past presi
dent of the American Baggage
Manufacturers Association will
relate his experiences with
trade association activities.
The Dinner and Dance sched
uled for November has been
postponed until January in ord
er not to conflict with plans of
the Anniversary Banquet Com
mittee which is contemplating
a large Industry Banquet and
entertainment to be held in
honor of the incoming officers
of the association, whose elec
tion will take place at the first
meeting in January.
The policy of the Promotion
Committee was best expressed
in its recent report in which
was found this expression:
“Good wholesome entertain
