Oberlander of Berlin
Visits America
Mr. Bernhart Oberlander of the
Oberlander Distributing Company,
Berlin, Germany, was a visitor to the
A u t o m a t ic A g e offices this month.
Mr. Oberlander is a son of Mr. Jo
seph Oberlander of Berlin, Germany,
who founded their coin-machine dis
tributing company in 1908. His father
had formerly been in the toy busi
ness, but when he recognized the
possibilities of the vending machine,
he became an operator and distrib
utor of cigarette machines. Since
that time they have extended their
business to include all types of coin
operated equipment.
Mr. Oberlander came to this coun
try for an indefinite stay, bringing
with him a new 10 cent coin-operated
photograph machine, which incorpo
rates some new ideas and is said to
be more simplified in operation than
the average photograph-taking ma
chine. Mr. Oberlander has been dem
onstrating the machines to interested
parties in this country and stated
that the machine might possibly be
manufactured here.
While in Chicago Mr. Oberlander
contacted various manufacturers for
amusement machines which his firm
cheaper to buy the machines here
and have them shipped for distribu
tion in the surrounding territories.
It was surprising to note how well
Mr. Oberlander has mastered our
English, because when he reached
New York some months ago he was
utterly unfamiliar with our language.
