Develop New Slug
Rejector
various types o f coin operated ma
chines. A t present, the Vanak is be
ing made only in five-cent size.
A new type o f coin selector has been
perfected which will refuse slugs o f
the same weight, size and metallic
content as real coins. It is announced
in this issue by the Vanak Corpora
tion o f Charlotte, N. C. Coin ma
chine manufacturers who have seen
it have been amazed by its simplicity,
compactness and its accuracy in de
tecting clugs. The Vanak Coin Se
lector weighs only 14 ounces and
measures only 4% inches in height
by less than two inches in thickness
and is only two inches in width.
Mr. A . A . Knee, vice president o f
the firm, demonstrated the device to
a number o f Chicago manufacturers
and also proved its effectiveness at
the A u t o m a t i c A ge offices. Mr. Knee
tried practically every known kind o f
slug and they were all returned. The
mechanical principle o f the Vanak
Coin Selector is such that it takes
the facial reading o f coins or slugs.
Since it would require a slug with al
most the identical stamping as ap
pears an real coins to cheat the de
vice, it is considered slug proof for
all practical purposes. Slugs to de
feat the Vanak Coin Selector would
be too costly to manufacturer.
The Western Electric Company
holds an option on the new selector
for use in telephones, according to
Mr. Knee. He also reports that a
number
of
manufacturers
have
wanted exclusive rights fo r its use on
