New Beer Clock
Slugger to Abandon
Lead Standard
Since beer is the talk o f the day, the
United States Electric M fg. Corp. is releas
ing at a most opportune time its beautiful
Happy Days electric clock. Happy Days is
shaped as a beer keg and has two rollicking,
jolly figures o f men with steins raised, one
on each side, and is made up in a com
bination o f five colors.
Alphonse Musiel o f Craig, Neb., declares
that he is off the babit-metal standard for
life and will adhere to the gold standard
in the future. Last month he was held in
Sioux City, Iowa, on a federal charge o f
counterfeiting money.
Musiel, 43 years old, single and un
employed, was arrested in LeMars by
Jerry F. Chvil, United States secret serv
ice agent, who said he found Musiel with
a counterfeiting machine in the railroad
yards. Musiel said that he had been in
LeMars fo r only four days when arrested.
The painter said that he first learned to
counterfeit coins out o f babbit-metal from
a hobo at St. James, Minn. Using plaster
o f paris moulds, he made passable imitation
nickels.
Musiel’s chief complaint, however, was
not because o f his arrest, but that he had
purchased 20 cents worth o f material to
make the nickels and that, playing them in
coin machines, he had received back only
15 cents in change.
The United States Electric M fg. Corp.
has ceaselessly guarded its reputation fo r
undeviating dependability and back o f this
reputation stands a record o f 25 years o f
reliability in producing and distributing
many successful products under the na
tionally famous U S A L IT E name.

Savannah Operators
Win a Point
A test case brought by operators in
Savannah, Ga., to learn whether officials
were legally permitted to pick up machines
which were licensed by the city resulted
in a decision in favor o f the operators.
When the Mayor o f Savannah ordered
police officers to stop all gaming within
the city limits, operators believed they were
protected until such time as the licensing
o f machines was discontinued.. However,
when machines were picked up, the oper
ators decided to make a test case. The
manager o f one location, a recreation
parlor, and a player o f the machines were
;arrested fo r violating the Mayors order.
The game was one which bore a city license
tag and a note that no prizes were given.
A t the trial the judge decided that there
had been no evidence o f gambling and that
the machine was a game o f skill.
