Speakers of National Prominence
Will Address Detroit Convention
^hree speakers o f great promin
ence are already listed to address the
c°nvention o f the Coin Machine Op-
j^tors’ Association o f America at
etroit in February. The first is
° ngressman M cLeod, who will speak
the bill he will introduce in Con
gress making it unlawful to use false
'ns in vending machines. Some o f
I e hoys feel that we are getting a
high-toned in having members
Congress on our speakers’ pro-
^larn> but let us not forget that we
ePiesent an industry o f growing im
portance.
Another speaker is Hon. Eric T.
Chief o f the Specialties Divi-
S. Dept, o f Commerce. Mr.
v'ng writes us as follow s:
^

n° r and privilege conveyed in your
for

Su8K. story can be presented on the
Ject of the increased use o f coin
achines in foreign countries.”

So
operate on a big scale can get
th’ G mighty good information from
s man Flint. He is a man who

does big thing:; and hobnobs with the
men who are bringing prestige to au
tomatic retailing. It is worth your
expenses to go to Detroit to hear
him.
The first meeting on Monday
morning in the convention room, just
cff the exhibition hall, will be the
largest gathering o f coin machine
men ever brought together. W e will
be there fo r a serious purpose and
the talks made will be by men with
a message o f progress and advance
ment.
W e have little patience with those
who are so greedy that they do not
want the operators to hold these
mcet'ngs.
It is peculiar that the
handful o f fellows who are always
hollering to cut the meeting short
are those who want the most time to
get drunk. I f those few men could
only realize that if we can get the
operators into these meetings and im
bue them with enthusiasm born o f
new ideas, they will go out o f the
convention hall encouraged to make
themselves better operators, and
therefore will be better buyers. No
customer with a depressing headache
is a liberal buyer. He is a good buyer
when he is normal and optimistic.
If we leave the better part o f the
afternoon and night fo r buying, that
is ample time to spend all the money
the boys will have to spend. W e are
strongly in favor o f having our in
spirational meetings and instructive
forums first and then join in the fun
afterwards. This industry must get
new ideas and to do that we must
educate.
