money). One can see on these piers,
rows and rows of people, old and
young, who come out for the day,
hire a beach chair for three pence
(6 cents) a day, and just sit and sun­
burn themselves all day, while listen­
ing to free music.
Another thing detrimental to auto­
matic coin operated machines in
Germany is the new coin which is
issued on the gold basis of exchange.
The new coin is different from the
old (which is now valueless) in read­
ing matter, and not much in size or
construction. This enables the player
to use up all his worthless coins on
vending machines, which can not be
made so fine as to determine the dif­
ference between the old and new
coins, even though the government
has attempted to do so, in its postage
stamp machines, which are very ac­
curate.
In practically every foreign coun­
try stamps are not sold at the coun­
ter inside the Post Office, but through
vending machines which sell stamps
at the regular price and eliminate the

Look Out
For This Trick
Manufacturers of Vending Machines who
occasion to ship to Latin America should look out for an old tr1
that is being constantly played, although it has been exposed
export agencies on a number of occasions.
The game is to send a small deposit for a machine shipP^
C. O. D. When the machine arrives, the consignee refuses
^accept it. The result is, the shipper must pay the charges bo
ways, which they oftentimes find unprofitable to do. The consigflfj
"has a confederate who then buys up these articles which are he
at the wharf for the charges. As the shipper has guaranteed t*1
carrier the delivered charges one way, the carrier will dispose 0
these articles for an insignificant sum. This is an old trick, ye
manufacturers still bite. One of our advertisers told us last
that he had bitten on it several times.
