At Operators'
Sessions
Speakers Urge Organization Extend Its Activities— Dwell on
Service and Quality.
The second annual convention of
the Vending Machine Operators As-
s°ciation got under way with the
°Pening session Monday at two
0 clock, when the meeting was called
t° order by President
William
Sheade who made the following ad
le s s :
“ The second annual convention
and exposition has proved a great
success beyond our expectations. We
are having the full support of the
eritire membership of the manufac
turers association, who realize the
Necessity for having such an organi
zation for the further development
°f this industry.
“ We are having the sympathy of
the operators who have shown their
interest by coming to this convention
and exposition from every part of
the country. Gentlemen, I said the
sympathy of the operators because
did not get the co-operation of
the operators as we ought to. The
pperators, as yet, do not realize the
Importance of having such an organ
ization and the benefits they will de
rive from same.
“ I will not take up much of your
time as we have quite a few speak
ers yet, but I sincerely believe that
every operator on returning home
from this convention and exposition
'Will do his utmost to organize a lo
cal in his respective town and apply
for a Charter to the National Organ
ization, as this will be the only solu
tion for the operators \r protect

what is going on throughout the
country. I thank you.”
La Grange Urges Strict Code
President Sheade introduced as
the first speaker, Irl La Grange,
President of the Vending Machine
Manufacturers’ Association of Amer
ica, who said in part:
“ On behalf of the Vending Manu
facturers Association it gives me
great pleasure to extend our greet
ings and I sincerely hope this joint
convention will be an even greater
success than our first one held in
Chicago last year.
“ The success of any organization
largely depends on its officers. Last
year your association used wonderful
judgment in selecting its officers, as
they worked diligently and have
shown remarkable progress. Remem
ber the merits of your association
will be judged by the type of men
you elect to direct it.
“ The next vital step is to be care
ful in electing men to membership
in your national and local associa
tions; for if one member conducts
his business in an unethical or un
derhanded manner, it will put a
stigma on your entire organization.
I would like to see your convention
adopt a code of ethics with the un
derstanding, that any member con
victed of doing business not in com
pliance with said code, after a fair
hearing, could be expelled from
membership.
“ It seems that authorities through
out the whole U. S. have taken a dis-
