There Will Be
Two Features Next Year
at the convention and exposi
tion in Chicago number one of which i s : The A U T O M A T IC A G E
will give a trophy fo r the best machine of any kind shown fo r the
first time at the convention. The choice will be made through a
poll taken at the convention from among the operators present.
It would have been hard to have made a decision of the best
machine during the N ew York convention. A s they say, a good
little man can never lick a good heavy man, and for that reason
the Chester-Pollard Football machine m ight be given .the trophy
ju st because it was a large machine. However, an equally clever
machine was the Alb Race Horse ball gum machine. These two
machines really created a sensation.
The ten-cent photograph
machine was shown one day during the convention, but that ma
chine has hardly been worked out on as practical a basis as the
other two machines.
In making a decision one of the principal things to be considered

|s the practicability of the machine. There have been machines
Evented which theoretically were sensational but thoroughly im
practical from the operators’ standpoint. Both the machines men
tioned above were thoroughly tested and tried machines. A close
third would be the A . B. T. Bulls-Eye Target Skill machine. There
Were other good machines which should be given honorable men
tion. Am ong them was the Advance candy vendor or Vendola;
dr>d the Gold Bond ball gum machine. In fact when one comes to
^in k about it the manufacturers nearly all had something good
to show, and naturally each manufacturer thought his machine
was the best. W e mention the machines above without prejudice
to anyone, particularly the target skill machine which had a num
ber of good competitors but were, of course, built along slightly
different lines, and for different purposes. The gum vending
target machines shown were splendid fo r their class.
It will be interesting next year when the A U T O M A T IC A G E
trophy is given to hear the concensus of opinion; not one m an’s
°Pinion, but the general opinion of all the operators present. In
Polling the convention next year we will ask the operators fo r first,
Second and third choice, together with others they wish to give
for honorable mention.
The Second Interesting
feature of the Convention
next year will be the award
ing of a trophy by T H E A U T O M A T IC A G E to the best, cleanest
and most progressive operator in the United States. W e are going
t° decide on this honor by personal observation, by conversation
^ith his fellow operators, and by his dealings with the manufac
turers. These trophies probably will be awarded in the form of
a silver or gold cup, and they will carry with them a unique dis
tinction in the vending machine business in the United States.
A t the recent convention banquet in New Y ork the toastmaster
designated F. C. Prange, as in his opinion, the best, cleanest, and
^ o st capable operator in the United States. This is quite a signal
honor and should be passed on each year through a general con
census of opinion. Mr. Prange is First Vice-President of the N a
tional Vending Machine Operators’ Association.
