a room at any kind of a price you desire, so that you need not
e afraid of not obtaining hotel accommodations.
The Manger Hotel, where the convention is to be held and which
as been designated as headquarters, is a great hostelry with suffi-

The Letter That
Never Game
has furnished the idea around which one of
the best known paintings was produced. We are not talking
romance, however, but business. And the picture, this time, is
somewhat different, although revolving about the same theme.
Operators complain that manufacturers and jobbers frequently
ignore their correspondence, or are careless in making prompt
replies.
Nothing destroys trade confidence more quickly than careless
business methods.
Prompt replies, prompt shipments, prompt adjustments in case
of complaints, particularly where unqualified guarantees are made,
are essential. Buyers or prospective buyers have a right to all
these essentials when they respond to any manufacturer’s offer,
whether it be direct mail or through the advertising pages of The
AU TOM ATIC AGE.
Let’s all b© business-like, and keep the coin machine business on &
high level.

Another Reason
Why—
operators and manufacturers should get together. No'W
that we have about all the laws on the books that our brothers'
keepers could contrive, the legislative mills, run by back water
ballyhoos of liberty and various shades of 100 percentism, are
turning to the operator. Operators! Get together! Elect your
own officials! Make your own laws! It is the only way. The
operators association needs you, and you need the association.
Read this and watch it spread unless you put a monkey wrench ifl
the wheels, now already running wild:
“ Austin, Texas.— “ Slot machines vending practically every com
modity from music to chewing gum and including pay telephone will
be assessed an operation tax under provisions o f a bill introduced
in the House Thursday by Representative Ray Holder o f Lancaster.
Machines where the coin required to obtain the commodity or
service is lc , are taxed $2.00 a year and where the charge is 5c or
more, $4.00 a year.
The National Convention at Hotel Manger, New York, February
21-22-23-24, is a good time and place to start
