Chicago Machines
Get Protection
Marauders cannot destroy vending
machines in Chicago and get away
with it. Within the last sixty days
three offenders were caught and sum
marily dealt with. In one case a
negro was caught after he had broken
his way into a peanut and ball gum
stand, using a horse shoe instead o f
the conventional burglar tools. The
judge sent this petty criminal fo r an
extended trip to the city jail. A n
other case that was reported to us
was an instance o f a gang o f young
sters which was making a systematic
cleanup o f machines in a certain dis
trict. When caught the boys put up
a desperate fight and one or tw o wer«*
badly shaken up in the melee. Owing
to their youth and the fa ct that they
had been pretty much used up in
their efforts to beat the law they were
given a suspended sentence, accom
panied with a severe reprimand and
lecture on civil conduct, and respect
fo r the rights o f private property.
In the matter o f upholding the law,
Judge Genzel o f the Criminal Court
bench is deserving o f commendation.
A vagrant sort o f offender was caught
smashing up a .machine on the W est
side o f Chicago recently, and he was
hailed into court and given a stiff
sentence and a line that will make
him try a bank next time he is in
clined to open any cash boxes. The
officer in the case had a struggle to
land his man, who was armed with a
jimmy. President W illiam L. Sheade
o f the National Operators Associa
tion appeared in court in behalf o f
the operators and expressed himsel'f
as pleased with the co-operation
shown by Chicago police and officials
in the protection o f vending ma
chines.
Cost o f corrosion o f iron in all its
uses in Am erica is $300,0(10,000. The
corrosion o f waterpipes represents
one-third o f this sum.

A Lucky Guy
" I beg to inform you that I am
the lucky winner o f the Photoscope
given away by the Exhibit Supply
Company at the Convention in Chi
cago, Illinois, which was held on
March 15th, 16th and 17th.
I received the prize machine yes
terday and it is sure a dandy. 1 in
stalled this machine today and I no
tice quite a few people patronizing it.
The way this machine appears to me
that it is a money getter and I in
tend to purchase some o f these ma
chines and operate them on percent
age basis.”

Failed to Register
In looking over convention notes, I
realised I did not register and do not
find myself or firm mentioned in visi
tors list.
Please include us in your list o f
Convention Visitors, as the writer
spent two days at the convention and
figured it a very profitable trip.
