O K L A H O M A — A license tax o f
$10.00 per year in every coin con-
itrolled machine operated in a county,
the license to be issued by the coun
ty clerk before the machine is in
actual operation. This tax is paid
into the general school fund in the
county in which the machine is oper
ated. There is a fine o f between
$25.00 and $100.00 fo r violation o f
this law.
TE N N E SS E E — There is quite a
lengthy law on the taxation o f vend
ing machines in this state, which will
be found on page 45 o f the 1925 R ev
enue Bill o f that state and can be
secured from Mr. E dgar J. Graham,
Controller o f the. Treasury, Nash
ville, Tenn. R oughly the law is as
follow s: machines requiring a 5c
piece to operate, the tax is $15.00
per year in counties o f 50,000 popu
lation and a tax o f $10.00 per year
in counties o f less than 50,000 popu
lation; machines requiring a l o piece
fo r the operation o f musical devices,
picture machines or other devices o f
like character, $3.00 per year tax in
counties o f 50,000 population, $2.00
per year tax in counties o f from 30,
000 to 50,000 population and $1.00
per year tax in counties o f less than
30,000 population; weighing scales
$10.00 per year tax, irrespective o f
population, except where such scales
are owned by the merchant himself,
who is paying a merchant’s privilege
tax, in which case the tax on the
w eighing machine is only $3.00 per
year. Machines requiring a 5c or l c
piece in the slot selling chewing gum,
candy, pictures or other merchandise
and stamp machines on which a profit
is made, a tax o f $3.00 per year is
required in counties o f 50,000 popula
tion ; $2.00 per year in counties o f
from 20,000 to 50,000 population and
$1.50 per year in counties o f less
than 20,000 population. None o f the
above taxes apply to merchants own
ing their own machines where the
m erchant’s privilege tax is paid.

Wants Card Venders
A fter an expression o f appreciation
fo r the very good work the A uto
matic A ge is doing, and o f our inter
est as one o f it’s first subscribers, we
wish to ask a question which should
lead to appreciable business fo r some
manufacturer o f card-vending ma
chines.
W e want to get in touch with the
best o f the postcard and other card-
vending
machine
manufacturers.
Clients o f ours here are in the mar
ket on a fairly appreciable scale. I f
you will forward us a list o f such
manufacturers we will be indebted to
you.

Candy Manufacturers
Knock Venders
N ew Y ork— Candy machines o f
the “ chance” variety are a menace to
the morals o f the children, a deputa
tion o f candy manufacturers told
P olice Commissioner McLaughlin.
The deputation called on the com
missioner and complained o f the
prevalence o f these machines near
public schools. The machines are so
constructed that a child putting in a
penny may get 5 cents worth o f
candy, 2 cents worth, or nothing.

PATENT REVIEW
By M. P. Laughlin, Patent Attorney, 47 W est 42nd St., N ew Y ork
Check-Controlled Liquor-Dispensor
Mr. J. T. Bonney has been granted
patent number 1,580,113 fo r mechan
ism especially designed fo r coin
liandling.
Pocket Dispensors
Vending articles is not confined to
machines on convenient walls or
posts; the ‘a r t/ or field, o f vending is
o f course a very broad one and in
cludes such devices as the Sanitary
Toothpick Dispenser shown in patent
number 1,580,123 and an A rticle-D is
pensing
Package
(evidently
fo r
cigarettes) shown in patent number
l,.r>80,165. A fter all why shouldn’t
the most convenient position fo r a
■vendor be in the customer’s pocket
or elsewhere within the immediate
radius o f his arm? W e’ll admit that
it might be some little collection
problem to get the coins if coin ma
chines were used, but certain banks
seem to work it with small coin boxes
alright.
Machine Support
Most machine operators are still
more than a little interested in keep
ing their vendors from being removed
from their stations.
Mr. Kibbe o f
the Automatic Machine Development
Corporation has invented a Support
fo r Vending Machines involving a
rigid base board mounting brackets,
lugs, and hasps engaging the ma
chine. The patent number is 1,580,
207.
Good P olicy
E. P. Richards has invented an In
surance-Vending Machine and it ap
pears that after inserting a coin pro
tection fo r certain risks may be ob
tained. W e’d think that there might
be a good stand fo r such a machine
at every railroad crossing or at the
nearest automobile filling station to

the crossing.
1,580,331.
The patent number is
Stamp Vendor
An improvement in machines o f
this character is shown in patent
number 1,580,588 granted to M. De
lude disclosing coin control mechan
ism guaging the coin thickness fo r
identification before operating the
dispenser.
Machine for Sewing on Buttons
The particular form o f mechanism
shown in patent number 1,584,287 to
A. Haenicke does not appear espe
cially suited fo r automatic coin oper
ation; but' wouldn’t an automatic coin
machine, capable o f putting on that
button in a jiffy, be a paying propo
sition?
Inn Casing
A vending machine company called
the ‘ Honey-Suckle Inns Inc.’ ha?-, been
assigned Design Patent number 70,
117. fo r a novel vending machine
casing formed to present a complete
little house including tile r o o f case
ment windows and panelled door.
The whole presents a very attractive
appearance and the Honey-Suckle
Inn title appears almost equally good.
Refrigerator Dispensor
I f w e’re going to vend ice cream
and like substances we will have to
employ a device somewhat similar to
that shown in patent number 1,584,
328 to F. C. Shelters and M. Bogin.
The machine casing is an insulated
refrigerator having an article con
tainer arranged at its center with the
dispensing mechanism sticking out
through the casing wall.
Fines o f $2.50 each were imposed
on 135 electors in Adelaide, South
Australia, because o f their failure to
vote at a recent election.
