Says Best Dollar Spent New Pie and Sandwich
Vending Machine
in Long Time
Enclosed please find our check fo r
the sum o f ($1.00) One Dollar, fo r
which kindly enter our subscription
fo r one year to your magazine,
A U T O M A T IC AGE. The writer was
certainly surprised to receive such a
publication, but also greatly pleased
as he has felt the need o f such a
magazine fo r some time.
Just a line thanking Mr. O. D.
Jennings fo r his article contributed in
regard to vending quality merchan
dise through vending machines. The
writer has for the past nine years
vended only the highets grade ball
gum and peanuts obtainable and has
found that the old saying, “ Give them
any thing, the kiddies never know the
difference” is a sure route to failure
in the operating business. I have
seen many concerns follow this route
in my experience.
The writer feel this is the best
dollar spent in a long time. Wishing
you only success, we remain
Yours very truly,
R. E. Thomas Marble Gum Co.

A new advertisement appearing in
this issue is o f especial interest to the
entire trade. It carries the announce
ment o f a new sandwich and pie vend
ing machine, put out by the Chicago
Slot Machine Exchange. This ma
chine in its demonstration period has
proved itself to be a big winner. We
are told that in the big factories not
only the employees but the officials
patronize these machines.
In fact
one machine we know o f did such a
big business that the restaurant man
in the neighborhood complained to
the factory and asked them to have
the machine moved as it was hurting
his business and injuring his invest
ment.
That is sufficient p orof that the
machines do a big business. In fact
the big difficulty is in keeping them
filled. There has been a big demand
fo r sandwich and pie vending ma
chines, and our prediction is that the
difficulty the manufacturers are going
to have is in supplying the demand.
Operators wanting to keep up to date
in the field should try some o f these
machines on their routes.
Japanese have inclosed nearly 7,000
square miles o f Formosa with elec
trified barbed-wire entanglements to
keep the “ tamed” natives from the
“ untamed.”
A telephone company on the Texas
coast, during 24 hours after giving
warning o f an approaching hurricane,
made more than 100,000 connections
fo r weather information.
