The Notable Rise of Honey Dew Gum Company of Kansas City
Many concerns claim to be nation
wide in scope and even though some
o f ’em have to stretch the old imagi
nation a bit, there are a considerable
number o f firms selling from Maine
to California. Sometimes it happens
that most o f the
states order very
seldom and some
s t a t e s possibly
only
once
o r
twice a year but
this does not pre
vent the enthusi
astic head o f the
company f r o m
boasting a b o u t
“ national distri
bution.” H o w -
ever, when a firm
J. A. Whitehead
has one hundred
and twenty-five active full time sales
men covering the entire country the
year ’round, it’s a cinch its distribu
tion must be nation-wide.
The name o f this last mentioned
firm is the Honey Dew Gum Com
pany and its head office is located
down in Kansas City, Mo., where
between fifty and seventy-five me
chanics are kept busy turning out the
“ Honey Dew” line o f vending ma
chines.
The dynamo in this energetic ma
chine is James A. Whitehead, V ice
President and General
Manager.
“ Jim” as everybody calls him has in
two years time organized and built
this smooth working organization.
N ot only that but he personally keeps
in constant touch with every one o f
the representatives and has the knack
o f keeping ’em pepped up. He was
born in Manchester, England and
came to America when but a young
lad. The m ajor part o f his business
career has been spent in the financial
world and fo r a long time Mr. W hite

head was associated with one o f the
largest security houses in the United
States and had charge o f sales work
in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Kansas
City and other cities.
Mr. Whitehead when he became
connected with the Honey Dew or
ganization had a natural bent fo r the
vending machine line as well as mei*-
chandising and his executive bond
selling experience endowed him with
the ability to organize an effective
sales force fo r his company. This
undoubtedly has contributed in no
small way to the rapid growth o f this
company during the past few years.
In addition, a quality product with
service o f merit has sustained ai repu
tation o f long standing where this
company and its line are known.
