Automat Closes
The Automat Restaurant in Chi
cago has been closed after many
years as , one o f the show places o f
the city. Some say this marks the
end o f attempts to serve food from
coin controlled devices. The A uto
mats, however, were not vending ma
chines; and their failure is no crit
erion o f what will yet be accom
plished through self-service machines.
The cafeteria, I n fact, put the Auto.-
mat out o f business, but the vending-
machine proper is coming back with
a vengeance in the sandwich and
pastry machines that are now flood
ing the country.
T o some it seems that the sand
wich machine was a long time in
coming, but it has certainly arrived,
and the companies putting them out
on legitimate merchandising basis
are making a reasonable amount o f
money.

“ First o f all I want to compliment
you on your splendid achievement,
“ T H E A U T O M A T IC A G E .” It is a
neat, well gotten up little book, and
fo r being only .two months old is a
wonder. I felt certain the rank and
file o f operators as well as manufac
turers will give you their hearty sup
port, and hearty support spells suc
cess.
