Theatres Trying
to Stamp Out
Gum Habit
New York— As a result o f a test
in a few o f the Keith-Albee theaters
during the past month to determine
the value o f flashing on the screen
the “ good-natured talk about chewing
gum in the theater,” which was first
end is still being published in the
programs, with little effect, the trailer
i? to be put in all the theaters con
trolled by the K.-A. organization, ac
cording to report, here are about a
naif dozen already using the film, pre
pared by the Semler Cinema Service.
The move on the part o f Mr. Albee
to stamp out the gum habit in the
theaters is expected to spread to
other parts o f the country. In the
K.-A. houses it has been found that
the average complaint is one a week.
It also often happens that the the
ater has to make good damages that
are caused by the careless parking of
gum on seats or other places where
it might do harm. A t the 81st Street
Theater recently a suit, ruined by
some abandoned gum, had to be made
good for.
In the film test it was found no
complaints were made to the man
agement o f the theaters in question.
Gum Manufacturer
Endorses Quality
W e are pleased to note the increase
in size o f your unique publication and
we reiterate our sincere wishes fo r
your success.
W e note an interesting letter on
page 37 o f the September issue, on
the quality o f ball chewing gum, from
Mr. Blendow, my form er employer
and my present friendly competitor.
I heartily agree with Mr. Blen
dow, and the American Chewing Gum
Corporation is one o f the few con
cerns that is putting out a genuine
quality ball gum at competing prices.

Our ball gum which is sold under
the trade-mark name o f “ American
Maid Ball Gum” is well liked by jo b
bers and operators because it is a
ball gum that “ stands up” well in the
globe machines in all kinds o f
weather and in different climatic sec
tions o f the countiy, such as Florida,
Texas, and the h ot middle west. Our
gum does not become soft or clog the
machines, and the brilliant polish and
pure lasting vegetable colors do not
fade.
The constantly growing demand
fo r American Maid Ball Gum is man
ifested in our increased business and
the necessity fo r enlarging our plant
to keep up with the demand.
V ery truly yours,
American Chewing Gum Corp.
Incorporated
Candy Gum Company, Cleveland,
incorporated by L. E. Fenton, W . H.
Hasselman, Frank S. Taylor and J.
E. Smith; capital, $5000.
O f the more than 200 government
farm films in circulation, at least 95
per cent o f the roles were portrayed
by real farmers, because gestures or
mannerisms savoring o f artificially
would be unerringly detected by the
audience.
An ordinance passed April 19, 1800,
by the city o f Schenectady, New
York, fixed a limit o f six hours as the
time during which a carriage o f any
kind might stand on any street or
alley “ after sunset or in the daytime.”
Delinquents paid 50 cents fo r each
offense against this law.
From a total o f 40,000 children and
young men who have been before
Judge Ben B. Lindsey in the past
twenty-five years, only one case has
graduated to the capital criminal
class.
