Atari Coin Connection

Issue: Vol 8 Num 01 - 1984 January

Honest, We Near You!
The tabulations have been made .. . the
percentages calculated ... the winners
determined. They are each and every one
of us, because your tremendous response
to our October Coin Connection question-
naire will allow us to respond more effect-
ively to your informational needs through-
out 1984!
Over 800 operators completed the
survey, and each response was thoroughly
reviewed by our now bleary-eyed editor
and her staff. The results of their labor pro-
duced the following updated reader pro-
file: is currently on our mailing list; is street/
route operator only or combined arcade
and route operator; has an independent
business, not part of a chain; operates 100
or less total units in 20 or less locations;
primarily operates arcade/game centers,
bars/cocktail lounges, restaurants/fast food
outlets; reads Play Meter, Replay, Vending
Times; plans to attend AMOA; shares issue
with 5 other people, particularly other
employees and family/friends.
As far as the order of importance in-
dicated for each information category, the
POLE POSITION 11 Poster

breakdown is as follows beginning with
most valuable: product and technical infor-
mation; operator advice and industry
news; game playing tips and promotional
ideas; photos.
Thank you one and all. Your input is
highly valued. We will be shaping this
year's series of Coin Connection- pub-
lished bi-monthly-to reflect the survey re-
sults and your written-in suggestions. Just
remember, you needn't wait until the next
questionnaire to let us know what's on
your mind. Pick up the pen or phone, we're
always here- ready, willing and able to sit
up and listen!

In December, Electronic Games magazine
presented its annual equivalent of the
Oscar and Emmy, the Arky, to the top elec-
tronic games. Pole Position 4 was named
"Coin-op Game of the Year" and Xevious 6
took the category for "Best Science Fiction
Fantasy Coin-op Game."

the refueling point. The player must also
avoid or destroy MIG fighters and other
FIREFOX prototypes in one-on-one
combat.
Awareness of fuel level is crucial to com-
pleting a mission. The new "heads-up"
graphic display functions as a cursor used
to sight targets. It also indicates fuel level
and missile ammunition status.
FIREFOX offers more choices, more
variety of action. The player chooses one
of four escape flight paths during level
select. He is then faced with an ongoing
series of challenges demanding instant
decisions and fast reactions.
High altitude flying uses less fuel but
makes FIREFOX more vulnerable to detec-
tion. Low altitude flying uses more fuel but
gives better cover. A direct hit by enemy
aircraft also depletes fuel. Game play is
determined solely by the player's
responses to these and other risk/reward
situations.
The ultra-responsive FIREFOX controller
g
is the latest technological achievement in
flight simulation. Thumb buttons launch
missiles, trigger switches fire bursts of can-
non shells.
The strong game play is set against
brilliant changing sky and landscapes
from actual film footage. Ground shadows,
cloud reflections, secret ground targets,
helicopters, ships and instruction clips add
to the extraordinary realism. At the higher
levels, day turns to night, and the player
must rely only on the cursor to fly the
FIREFOX.
The audio reproduction system is the
most sophisticated in the industry. The
soundtrack includes dramatic stereo
sound effects, Clint Eastwood's voiceover,
and an original music score composed
specially for the game that enhances the
mood and pace of the action.
FIREFOX utilizes a new technically
superior laser disc player co-designed with
North American Philips to Atari specifica-
tions for industrial/commercial application.
Designed for high reliability, the system
gives extremely rapid access to "inter-
leaved" video segments, creating contin-
uous action and no 'tlead spots."

Both a window decal and a display card to place on top of the game are included in all
FIREFOX upright and cockpit units rolling off the production line. These promotional pieces
will help make players aware
that you have the game-of-
the-year at your location now!
We are responding to several
operator requests voiced
over the last few months for
visual aids, so please let us
know how they work for you.
For two coins, the player may select
either a 3,000-mile or a 6,000-mile journey. -
For three coins, he may select a 9,000-mile
or an "unlimited" journey.
FIREFOX soars to new heights in the in-
dustry by blending space age technology
and advancements with super-interactive ...
game play. Flight test FIREFOX at your
